Helping Another Care Leaver – Wakefield College

Many of you have supported us over the years and without your support another young care leaver would have struggled to achieve their potential. Reading this all of you who donate should be proud, as I was today handing over the equipment, that your kindness and support has helped another young person. On Behalf of all at The Samantha Sykes Foundation Trust we would like to thank you for your ongoing support.

A few weeks ago The Samantha Sykes Foundation Trust was contacted by Carol McArthur, who is ‘The Student Wellbeing and Safeguarding Manager’ at Wakefield College. Carol asked if we could help with a young female student, who was a care leaver and needed support to enable her to continue with further education. The student is studying sports science and is a keen sportswoman and we are told is a keen rugby player, but enjoys all sports.
Wakefield College have been supporting the student, but to progress and continue with her studies/education she really needed some computer equipment.

The Samantha Sykes Foundation purchased the equipment from Laptops Direct Huddersfield and Zoe in the sales team helped expedite the acquisition so we are able to help this young person quickly. The purchase included a Laptop, Laptop Bag, Anti Virus Software and a 3 Year Service contract. The IT Team, at Wakefield College, headed by Paul Cutten will add some necessary software to the equipment before it is handed to the student in preparation for the new academic year
