Hall Green United’s Charity Football Match

On Sunday 28th May, Hall Green United hosted a Fun Day, which had great food, great entertainment and lots of after match celebration. The event was organised in the main by Sheridann Dickerson, with help from his father Phil. Sheridann organised the main entertainment for the day, in the form of ex England & Liverpool FC footballer Alan Kennedy. The day started for most people with a game between a Hall Green select team, and a team of veteran all stars. Alan Kennedy played the full game, for the all-stars, and even at 62 his passion for the game has not dissipated. Alan barked instructions at his fellow defenders and showed determination throughout. Following the game the players retired to the bar for a well-earned drink and Alan Kennedy gave a speech about his career, he was both entertaining and knowledgeable and was a huge success, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone there.

Following Alan’s speech there was a charity auction with some superb sporting items supplied by Online Authentic of Cleckheaton. Online Auctions also sponsored some of the cost of the day with an extremely generous donation, for which we are extremely grateful. The auctioneer was the Peter Pan of football Mark “ Willy” Wilson who is currently player manager of Retford Town FC. Willy’s vigour and entertainment throughout the auction ensured that all of the items were sold. Thanks Willy !!

The day was a huge success and Hall Green United donated a total of £1,511 to us, which is a truly superb achievement. On behalf of everyone at The Samantha Sykes Foundation we would like to thank Sheridann & Phil, along with all the people who attended, we cannot forget Catherine and the staff of “ The Scratchin Shed” and of course Hall Green United. Anyone who was there will tell you what a great day it was and I cannot express enough our appreciation as this event was run on behalf of The Samantha Sykes Foundation who did nothing more than enjoy the day, we take no credit for the day, it was 100% organised by the people mentioned above. Thanks to all of you

Eric Sykes
